Acoustic treatment for municipal band rehearsal room

Client: Distributor

Location: Navarre

Project description

Music bands need large rooms to carry out their rehearsals.

The problem with these large rooms, due to their very size, is reverberation. When dealing with large spaces, the Reverberation Times tend to be high, for this reason it is necessary to treat them acoustically with sound-absorbing materials.

In addition, as they are music rooms, where instruments that cover the entire spectrum of frequencies are reproduced, they must be acoustic panels with the capacity to absorb from low frequencies to the highest. But not only that, as they are music rooms, sound diffusion is also an important parameter to take into account, so that focalization does not occur. This room in particular, having a geometry of parallel walls, it was necessary to break their symmetry by including elements that would break that parallel geometry.

Based on these premises, it was decided to mount a registrable ceiling with sound-absorbing panels, where sound diffusers were also installed, which would improve the sound diffusion of the entire room. With this large sound-absorbing surface (the ceiling), it is possible to lower and control the general TR of the room, leaving it practically within the ideal parameters.

But not only that, the walls, as it is such a large room, also have a crucial role. Since they can give rise to sound reflections and produce the well-known floating echoes or flutter echo. To avoid this, triangular acoustic panels with a wood finish, EliAcoustic Flag Luxury, were installed, which also provide a warmer sound to the room.
